Recipe for Honey Soy Roast Chicken Cooked on a Spit

Cooking a few chickens on a spit roaster is an easy way to cook for a small group or a large group. While you can cook a roast chicken in your regular oven, cooking it on the spit will give you a delicious smoky flavour and crown you as the charcoal chicken king or queen.

Ingredients:

  • 1 chicken
  • Salt
  • Sweet paprika
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Sweet soy sauce

Method:

Sprinkle generous amounts of all of the dry ingredients listed above over the chicken, both inside and out, to the point where you shouldn't be able to see any of the meat due to the amount of spices you've used. Drizzle the sweet soy sauce over the chicken and baste it all over the surface.

Attaching it to the spit:

  • A skewer and two chicken prongs per chicken are required.
  • Pass the skewer through the chicken
  • Insert one chicken prong through each side of the meat and tighten.
  • Tie the legs together with butcher's string so they stay stuck in the body.

Cooking time:

Many factors will influence your cooking time; however, to be on the safe side, allow around 2-2.5 hours. If it's ready earlier, you can always push the charcoal to the side and raise the chicken to the top of the spit roaster to keep it warm but not cooking.

Use a cooking thermometer to check the internal temperature; once it reaches 75 degrees, it's done.

Enjoy
