How To Prep Your Auspit For Black Friday Weekend And Summer Cooking Season

With the warmer weather rolling in and holiday plans starting to take shape, now is the perfect time to give your Auspit gear a once-over. Whether you are planning big summer feasts, coastal camping cook-ups, or just want to be ready for last-minute backyard get-togethers, a little pre-season prep goes a long way.
November is the sweet spot. It is early enough to clean, check, and upgrade your setup before summer really kicks off. And with Black Friday just around the corner, there is a good chance you will be able to grab any missing parts or accessories at the right price, so keep an eye on our socials for that.
Here is how to get your gear in top shape so you are ready for any roast that comes your way.
Step One: Give Everything A Proper Clean
Start with a full teardown. Pull out the spit bar, prongs, motor, brackets, and any extras you have picked up over time.
Soak stainless steel parts in hot soapy water and scrub with a wire brush to remove any leftover fat or soot. Check basket cages and spikes for food residue, rust spots, or bent fittings. Wipe down your motor housing with a dry cloth and check for any build-up or corrosion around the shaft. If you have a charcoal tray or fire drum, tip out ash, clean with a scraper, and make sure there are no holes or damage that could affect airflow.

Cleaning now saves time later and makes your first summer cookout much smoother.
Step Two: Check Your Gear For Wear And Tear
Before you fire up for the season, take a few minutes to inspect all moving parts and attachments. It only takes one dodgy bracket or burnt-out motor to ruin a cook.
Test the motor by mounting it to the post, running it for a few minutes, and watching for sticking, hesitation, or grinding. Inspect the spit bar to see if it is straight and balanced because bent bars can cause uneven spinning and motor strain. Check mounting brackets for rust, stripped threads, or loose fittings. Review your accessories and make sure you have enough prongs, that clamps and bolts are tight, and nothing looks ready to give out mid-cook.

If anything looks questionable now, it is worth replacing before you are halfway through your Christmas pork roast.
Step Three: Make A List Of What You Need
Now that everything is cleaned and inspected, write down what is missing, worn out, or ready for an upgrade.
Here is a handy checklist to get you started. You might need a new motor with higher capacity like 10kg or 18kg options for heavier cuts, spare prongs, spikes, or leg brackets, a basket cage for wings, veg or seafood, a fire pit or charcoal tray, a carving shovel (To view products, head over to BBQ Spit Rotisseries here), long tongs or heat-resistant gloves, and charcoal, firelighters, and backup batteries.
Even if you are not planning to host until summer, ticking this list off now means you will not be scrambling when your mates ask for a spit roast two days before New Year’s.

Step Four: Consider A Test Cook
There is no better way to make sure your setup is ready than by doing a practice run.
Choose a smaller roast or a few chickens, keep it low-pressure and casual, and use this time to test out any new gear or techniques. Check heat distribution and balance while everything is spinning, and enjoy a fire-cooked meal while you are at it.
You will gain confidence, catch any issues early, and head into summer with your setup dialled in.

Step Five: Watch This Space For Black Friday
